Frequently asked questions
What is JanusLab?
A research and learning platform for Indian traders to backtest strategies, build their own with no code, and practise with paper trading. It's an educational tool — not a brokerage, adviser, or tip service.
Does JanusLab give buy/sell tips or investment advice?
No. JanusLab provides tools and historical data for you to test your own ideas. We don't make recommendations or provide investment advice, and we are not a SEBI-registered investment adviser or research analyst.
Do I need a broker account?
Yes — JanusLab currently uses your Zerodha / Kite login for NSE market data. Support for more brokers is coming soon. Paid plans require your own connected broker account; the free trial runs on a shared quota.
Do you place real trades?
No. Paper trading is fully simulated. JanusLab never executes real orders on your account.
Which markets and instruments are covered?
NSE equities (cash) and index options/futures (F&O) on indices like NIFTY 50 and BankNifty.
How far back does the data go?
Daily data goes back roughly a decade; intraday data is broker-limited and available on Pro and above.
Is my broker login safe?
Your credentials are stored encrypted, and you can disconnect and revoke access at any time from Broker Connections.
How much does it cost?
There's a 14-day free trial, then Starter ₹399, Pro ₹999, or Elite ₹2,499 per month — with 50% off the first 6 months at launch. See pricing.
Can I build my own strategy?
Yes — the no-code Strategy Builder lets you pick indicators and define your own entry/exit and stop-loss rules.
Can I export my results?
Yes, as CSV or JSON on Starter and above.
What's the difference between backtesting and paper trading?
Backtesting replays a strategy over historical data; paper trading runs it forward in real time with simulated orders against live quotes.
